So.
I just saw the new commercial starring the Sham-Wow guy. The slap-chop.
I know the goal in advertising and marketing is to get a reaction from the customer and get them to remember your product. Sometimes it does seem like we remember the stupid commercials more than good ones, though. Commercials by their mere existance are annoying and interrupting what we tuned in for, but why is it that purposely annoying commercials get more of a reaction from consumers?
Although, if the commercial is so horrible that so many people remember how horrible it was and what product it was for...was it really a horrible commercial?
Thanks for reading...

There is no such thing as Bad Advertising. Of course commercials are intentionally annoying. The Clapper, Sham Wow, Progressive Insurance, the list goes on and on. The majority of people on this planet are clueless. Don't believe me, look all around you. Do you really need a helmet law? Look at all the violence, Christ... just spam alone speaks volumes. If people didn't respond to obvious stupidity then all of these problems would go away. We live in a world where the majority of people are un-educated and ignorant. Advertisers know this and in a capitalistic society such as ours, it's a haven for those who prey on stupidity. So yes, commercials are designed to do one thing. To get you to remember the product or service. They try to shock the weak minded and annoy the more educated. But in either case, they are out to get you to remember, good works ok but bad works better. Welcome to the planet Earth where you will never have a shortage of stupidity.
ReplyDeleteThere's no such thing as bad publicity...there sure as hell is such a thing as bad advertiseMENTS.
ReplyDeleteThere's a difference.
If a commercial for a product that I would actually like makes me NOT buy the product because it's so stupid...that's a bad commercial. The publicity gained from the public shitting on your commercial is good.
